Pet peeves on blogging networks

Added: June 7, 2013

Dear multi-blogger networks, in case you’re paying attention:

  • Don’t make me create an account with your site just to comment. I almost never do.
  • Don’t try to force me to connect my Facebook account before you let me even view your content. I always go away.
  • Stop the slideshows! I am never going to click through 25 photos each giving one single tip, so why do you keep trying? At least give me the opton to get them all in one page.
  • Don’t bait and link! If you’re going to announce that you have a post, have the post. Don’t include one quoted paragraph, with an “original content” tag, then lead me to a post on another site to read the info.

And the rant is over.

Pet peeve: don’t make me work to give you a comment

Added: February 22, 2013

I read a lot of blogs. And I mean a lot of blogs. I don’t comment as much as I probably should. Why? Because you make it nearly impossible for me to leave you a comment.

Things that will ensure I don’t leave you a comment:

  • your captcha system makes it impossible to enter the words correctly the first five times I try
  • I have to have an account with your blogging system and there are no other options available
  • it takes 15 minutes to qualify through the commenting system before I can see that my comment made it into your queue
  • you hide the “leave a comment” option

There are probably other things I’m not thinking about right now, but those will decrease your comments, I guarantee it.
